CDW 2014 Don't Miss

Don't forget to pick up your official guide to Clerkenwell Design Week, produced by Icon magazine and available in CDW venues and participating showrooms and cafes. And look out for the June issue of Icon (issue 132), which features a focus on South Africa including eight of the best emerging design talents and Thomas Heatherwick's plan to turn a Cape Town grain silo into a museum. Head to the website for a special CDW subscription offer: 12 issues for £30 in the UK.

The Campana brothers, who designed the Pirarucu cabinet made from the skin of the world's largest freshwater fish, top the bill at Detail at the Order of St John. From Art to Design is an exhibition of their work and launch of their latest collection with Edra staged in collaboration with .IT All About Design. And the Brazilian brothers are interviewed by Icon editor Christopher Turner at 5pm on Tuesday, 20 May in the Farmiloe Building.

As a design hub, Clerkenwell is the perfect location for a festival to attract design brands from around the world. And Media 10, the people behind CDW, has successfully exported its event expertise to China for Design Shanghai. The four-day show for design professionals in China, co-organised with Shanghai Art Fair from 27 February to 2 March, drew 47,000 visitors to its inaugural edition. It will return in 2015.

Make sure you check out CDW's Fringe programme, sponsored by Urban Spaces, which will feature studio sessions from creative practices including architects, branding agencies and craft studios. Multi-media artist Lauren Baker has created an exclusive installation for this year's Fringe: Portal to the Urban Garden in partnership with The Gin Garden at the Portal restaurant.

Although the focus is on design at CDW, Clerkenwell's formidable foodie reputation won't be ignored. Retail and event space The Clerkenwell Collection has partnered with Mark Hix, whose restaurants include Hix Oyster & Chop House. Hix will be creating food pairings for the wine samples at The Clerkenwell Collection and he's opening its CDW events with a talk discussing the relationship between food, art and design.
